UC San Diego to Construct Residential Village to Meet Housing Demand - Article BannerUC San Diego plans to construct a 6,000-bed residential village to address growing housing demands on campus. This groundbreaking project will be composed of high-rise buildings on the eastern edge of the campus, next to I-5.

UC San Diego is experiencing a historic boom in enrollment in a county where affordable off-campus housing is scarce. This development will accommodate the increasing student population at UC San Diego, which currently has a record enrollment of 45,087 students. UC San Diego is one of the largest and fastest-growing universities on the west coast.

Pepper Canyon East Housing at UC San Diego will be a massive, $2 billion, 20-acre “village-style” residential development near the Blue Line Trolley station on the eastern edge of campus.  It will feature multiple high-rise towers offering 6-8 bedroom apartments with up to 6,000 beds. The project is set to begin construction in 2026, and will provide 2000-3000 beds by 2030, with completion by 2032.

Once completed, the residential village will increase UCSD’s housing capacity to 30,500 beds.  It will be one of the largest university housing providers in the U.S., alongside UCLA.
